Principal's Message, February 11, 2022

Good Friday Afternoon Parents and Students,
I was really in a good mood today as I looked outside at a beautiful blue sky with Quartzite Mtn. in the background. We have so many blessings in Chewelah to be thankful for, even in a year that is as challenging as 2021-22.
I wanted to share that Mr. Baker has purchased eight new Predator small engines for the CTE course this spring so that students can learn the essential fundamentals of how small engines work. In the final assessment, students will break down the engines in groups of two and rebuild them to make sure they meet standards for the understanding of small engine repair. If successful, they will receive a certificate of completion.
There was a student demonstration on Wednesday to protest the state requirement of wearing masks in schools. I was really proud of our students that they kept the protest respectful and peaceful. The demonstrators were provided a half hour first thing in the morning to peacefully assemble. The students were then expected to return to first period. Several students continued to protest beyond first period outside of school and parents were contacted to ensure parents were aware.
The math department has met this month with a math specialist from our region during two separate professional learning opportunities as we continue to focus on improved math instruction and student math growth over time. One area of focus will be on common mathematical practices district wide.
Have a fantastic Friday.
Mr. Anderson
