Statement Regarding Spectrum Outage and Internet Access During Remote Learning

Dear Jenkins Junior/Senior High School Families:

We are aware that Spectrum customers in our district have lost internet service.  We also know that many of our families have limited or no reliable internet connection.  While this limited connectivity may complicate remote instruction, it does not make learning impossible.

The Chewelah School District offers unlimited Wi-Fi accessibility on the grounds of Jenkins Junior/Senior High School.  The internet signal is strong in the front parking area, as well as behind the school.  In the back, we have picnic tables set up which can be used by students if they social distance and wear a mask.  We want our students to access this resource which is why it is available around the clock, every day of the week.

An alternative option is to make an appointment to visit the internet cafe we are sponsoring on Mondays and Tuesdays, 3:30PM-6:30PM.  These are 45-minute appointments inside the school library.  All COVID-19 protocols must be followed, including wearing a mask, temperature check, and wellness attestation.  The internet café will begin on Monday, September 14.

Families who would like to make an appointment for the internet café should contact our Family Communication Liaison, Shirley Baker, at [email protected] or 509-685-6800, ext. 3107.

The staff and administration of Jenkins Junior/Senior High School is working diligently to help our student transition to the remote learning model.  Please continue to contact us with complications as they arise.  We know we can work together to smooth the path to learning for our children.
