thank you for coming we try to do this every year so some of you may have gone through this you know I'm a very thin here in a couple times but every year you have an opportunity to receive a the different information and so we're recording we're recording the zoom zoom zoom tonight as well and we just want to make sure that we have an opportunity to give you some information about the sophomores and a little bit later Juniors and to also give you a chance to to ask and receive information if if we miss something that you might you know that my on your mind so it's just a couple right off the tane we're asking for parents do to keep their kids home if they're sick and you know I'm probably preaching to the choir here just looking out at the audience right now but you know vyas well we don't know who he who are reaching out to you but just today I think we've probably spent close to five hours just on trying to reach out to people who were sick and not here and making sure that keeping us safe as possible and so we want to err on the side of caution even if you think it's a cold I'm keep your kids at home good practice and if you do have to have your kids at home the students when they returned they check in at the office either with their do it says yay I'm free to thumbs-up to come back or that you know 10 days or 14 days War in rare cases 24 days is up I've been just come in and check in with Renee and the office to get the two thumbs up we make sure that we get an email to class so if your daughter is going to be absent again we just asked call let us know specially right now with as many students as we have out we're trying to work through a tendon you know you're going to take take your son or daughter on a hunting trip give us a call say hey you don't work we're doing this family tree going to be gone for a few days and it really helps us. Understand what's going on who's going to be gone and why they're going to be gone so where in Florida did everybody still out and complete the food application for free and reduced lunch has some of you might know that we already have a program will provide free breakfast and lunch for students however if you think you might be borderline of being able to qualify for free and reduced lunches we get additional funding our district gets thousands of dollars if we qualify in are in the high school for free and reduced lunch that's over the 50% Mark and so it's right now we're really employing people yes I know that everybody's got free and reduced or free lunches at the school paid for by the federal government but we're really imploring you to feel especially if you think you might be close to let you know that free reduced lunch category I think I want to you know thank you for coming one of the things that's on in my office on our wall is and we don't really know where this came from her what your began and you know some people in the district like it and other people don't I have latched on to it and it's it's a you know it's the same where dreams begin because I truly believe that regardless of who your son or daughter is one of our goal as a system is to is to help your student to recognize what they were for their career or do they want to be a mom and a stand-in you know what stay at home mom that's awesome that raises a family but we want we want students to do to figure that out and we want them to be do you know look out and reach their dreams and and potential and and so that's one of the other reasons that we put on this tonight is to help you know if you understand and then have this conversation what time is tag team and handed over to sue Fisk Renee Vanessa who's our other counselor this year to not be here on Monday night because she's still play some classes at College of the way she would be here as well but she'll put some of the program together glad you guys came so just a little bit about scheduling and how it works the sophomores are the opportunity to schedule last spring take the classes that they wanted it so every everything that we do is May is built to put those kids in the classes that they want so we build our master schedule around the classes that they chose and then we hold them accountable to their choices so that being said there's Limited schedule changes and all of that and then they have one week to classes and they'll have that same opportunity second semester as well so it's built that way and we do everything we can to get them where they want to go actually pick something really rotten for I'm so they'll come in and don't know I didn't want that you know because they had a hole in your schedule or whatever anyway so we know the schedule around our belts Hunter high school and Beyond plan and I'll show you guys that tonight and also before I get to that though best place to check grades canvas don't rely on Skyward cuz they're teachers don't have to think that I have to think it weekly so so it's up to date and canvas if you ask to look at your students or child's grades and canvas that's where you want to go that's the most reliable on a day-to-day basis high school and Beyond huge and it's a half moon permission to show you this one students in General Tso 3/2 questions so who am I and how will I become back those three question right there become the basis for I didn't say anything like that I'm so they must be late. Start in and it's pretty sketchy. It's a senior is a senior beyond the sky this is where we start asking a question right here is one of my interest right and explore all kinds of different so at least one of them in there in there and that sir it's just an odd idea this here is super important to me to make sure we're getting soliciting your wants to go to your school but I'm so we'll shoot for this do we have some ideas about where you want to go and then are you going to study stop the work on all of those days and then this area tonight and so Luke for this far. Lee isn't it's all those are at the art college in the classroom classes listed there pretty close with the one exception is our cousin on there appreciation are there any questions for me on any of those things ideals or would you Baker and athletic director here at Jenkins Junior Senior High School and so I'm here to talk a little bit about you might love or hate family idea there's a it's convenient it's a way for us to get our all of our clearance information one place it gives you the opportunity to upload your child's physical so for athletic clearance they have to be cleared from it that have a their profile set up on family ID you need to have a current physical so when it's been completed within the last 2 years the city has the card and also the glue. nothing but lies to students who have ever to see care plans on file here at school like maybe they carry an EpiPen or allergy medicine that sort of thing is the covid-19 requirements there in place right now I think it's really important for everyone to know those things specially if you're playing to go to any events so right now in Fall Sports all Outdoor Sports and extend into the spring I'm pretty sure required it's kind of like it used to hurt people who aren't vaccinated to wear a mask but he has kind of Return To What We traditionally feel like a football game would be your baseball game would be with our fans and what they're very different animals so with indoor sports for fall right now so we have volleyball everyone has to be Max in the gym except for the athletes that are actually actively playing on the court so all the game management all the spectators and athletes are waiting to enter the court I'm on the sideline they're all expected they have to be mask all the time only the outfits on the court that changes when we move into winter sports so if you have an athlete who plans to wrestle or play basketball or cheer lead in the in the winter those are all hi contact Indoor Sports and so athletes who are vaccinated have no masking requirement they don't have to wear a mask they can be required to pursue isn't vaccinated they have to either they were a mouse 200% of the time or they can take a rapid covid test twice a week to confirm that they are covid negative and then they can go without a mask I want to make sure that I explain that to people so that there's no surprises when we get to winter sports cuz that isn't an object that isn't a requirement of our fault because volleyball is considered a moderate contact for it so we have about a hundred high school students right now doing another I don't know what to say forty or so junior high students staying up late right now and so super excited to have its work back on the on my weekly schedule is pretty full schedule and I have any questions please email call happy to answer your question but if there any right now that I can clear up I'd be happy to take those questions down thank you next okay I'm also courses we offer here we offer English 101 which is Introduction to composition English 201 which is argumentation and then English 172 literature so our students are Juniors and seniors concern 15 credits in English we also offer honors 9th grade and honors 10th grade in the springs teachers though so if your students are in her class perhaps and Mr monasmith teachers are on level English courses we use the springboard curriculum for that which is a college board base curriculum but the reason we chose it is because it's aligned with the common core standards which is the basis for the S back test which is what this is best mentioned earlier as one of those Pathways to graduation reason why we chose the curriculum because it Alliance a wall with those requirements they even have questions about what is your favorite class right and High School campus geometry outcome to everything cannabis Paradise is a great way to keep track of how the kids are doing I don't know if you get all this I hope I'm not having too much. Really doing a good job staying on top of getting everything turned in nice to see a group of two groups after that I have that are really on the ball Chelsea teachers geometry and algebra two and this year they're offering Albert Road through Central so they can see college credits that's honest because then they can catch up with Miss watts and take precalculus and calculus so I'm not sure if 325 credits per semester or year but I get a nice chunk of matter to tell the way my daughter she can get teacher she left here she'll have taken cuz she already had taken care of that's nice if you haven't. I would honestly say we're probably about where we were last year at Thanksgiving right now cuz they're really is open to it starts with the pages together got out her pictures and they're just a lot more. I think. How can you buy the Karen the office last year it is possible by. not everybody we decided this year just to final everybody to carry in the office here and have you guys find it the next appointment is history I'm kind of adjunct faculty me try to stay out of mr. Anderson kind of radar on History has appointment the Middle East my shirts are really excited to have him back in our history Department actually going to got to go in Roman history department so that our students can earn in social studies he said my purses are also offered to Eastern we also have Mister to do right now is teaching Civics and then our software that are Juniors out taking this teacher in our specialized apartment so I don't know if you have questions or what's the weather curriculum Department isn't an exceptional. Department in classes in are robotics classes of course he knows PE wish for your students on a sophomores are probably still at a requirement right there postal in metric good. But as they move through they can elect to take physical education as they go along so we do offer for small school we are quite a variety of course work and we're pretty receptive she was doing table ideas for different classes and in our Administration is is really supportive of offering that so your other sports have you played your student has an idea for a class and we would love to see then you know you know what the plan was about like building right so involved in anything anything for their sport or the clubs that we have here it's it's good to build build up that resume and so to that end we have some new clubs here this year I'm looking to get a chest the ground we've got a gaming club we got have a kind of social Cougar Club mother facial Club so things to be involved in when you're in those classes as well as outside of them and and being a nasty as well a lot of them meet at like lunch time and things like that different meeting times and pretty soon they'll be some announcements and like when and where they will meet yeah those are very black and also doing some activities a little bit in the morning, one of the advisors so are we all. We know that we share everything we have for you if you have questions anything else anything anything you want to know more about what kind of activities tractor competitions in the past that you want to go to a forestry competition at least once or twice to the fairgrounds to look at the Big E the largest SFA student access to a couple different field trips a year she tries to bury it up but like they'll go look at the trees in Spokane and do one of the walks around the park because they're all labeled so they can actually see the trees and and other activities images call missing nffa is the shooting that was our country because that's always based on we've got a group that are really interested in getting that back up and going against we're looking for somebody in the community safety training I actually have I wonder if we went together. Contact Aubrey Markell would be the same tattoo shows for our first son he was able to do is at such a thing as a sophomore in the spring in the spring in the spring and Junior the band in the spring sophomores and juniors then and I will offer the sashet here twice once in the fall are seniors only and then once in spring for juniors severe weather questions as you think about throughout the year give me a call you can email you can text or you can just stop in is it make an appointment as well as the department I think as well thanks for coming we appreciate it Junior I'm on Meridian you are muted no one or actually Zoom recording this so that parents are able to look at set up a later date as well I want to thank you for coming we're going to cover a little bit of information tonight in quick amount of time but I just want to let you know that my door or phone is is always available you can reach me via an appointment or you can give me a call or respond really well too also however you want to do it as well as our counseling department because sometimes questions you come up there specific to your child and an so sometimes you know a question like tonight in front of everybody might not be appropriate but you can give us a call and we can talk you know in more detail at a different time so one thing that I've been starting out with this I got this little District models at Sentara on some of our paperwork and excetera and it says basically no I don't really know the history of it but I haven't I haven't opted it over the years and that is you know where dreams begin and that is you know when I think about that statement I know that for some students that's a fact the dreams began and in coordination with your son or daughter and what the experience at home and what they experienced at school and I like that I like that idea that dreams began here whether it's to be an engineer or lyrics to be a bishop whether it's to move to Alaska or whether it's settled down in their Hometown and sometimes those dreams don't always happen later on in their lives and it's hard we're going to talk about we're going to try to talk about the high school and Beyond plan went to mrs. Fisk is up but it starts with that planning but sometimes I really do believe it starts with a drink and so welcome and there's a couple things I know I have to cover but I'm going to cover really fast if they recover after the 10 or 14 days or in some weird cases. 44 days where they get tested after 7 days and they have a covid test make sure they bring that covid test with him and bring it into the office but we'd ask it when they do return that they check into the office as well that we've got a lot of people that are out and it just helps us to manage students in when they should be back in the class in general States asking for us to keep after those again this year after almost a year-and-a-half of having some flexibility and so we're getting the hang of things I spent about 3-4 hours on that today as well as Secretary of Mr stop looking at different things so we're getting back in the swing of things of like okay calling students when they're not here and reminding Terrance to send the notes and accept it so bear with us a little bit but the main thing is is you know there's there's those excused absences that were all pretty much aware of and how that and but if you're going to be you know if your son or daughter is going to be gone for some odd reason for the little bit of dirty time to go on vacation or whatever it might be a funeral and communicate with the office and let us know it really how to stop in the office as well as communicating with students so that they don't get behind the last is just really really strange please we have free and we have free breakfast and lunch all students get free breakfast in the program that we sign up for but if think that you might be on that poverty line where you could get free and reduced lunches if you filled out an application we encourage you to do so because those numbers are free and reduced qualifying her eligible actually provide our district with thousands and thousands of dollars so if we don't kill those forms out even if we see you know we might be on the cusp because our kids are getting free and reduced lunches we actually lose out on you know what you been up to so I don't know does he remember the number close to like a hundred thousand is a lot of money so we miss out on and so just throwing that out there encouraging people to do that if you haven't done so already it's not too late and without sense I'm going to turn it over to our counseling department this is Miss Vanessa biggar who's also cancelled this year for couldn't be her because she's taking my classes on Mondays and so she was bummed out when we schedule this week because she probably be doing instead of Sue because we're giving everything to her cuz she's an answer but she's not with us tonight so but thank you for being here I appreciate it but we have to care about for high school graduation and kind of show you some tools that your your kids got to use to graduate from high school because they're all have to so I'm going to kind of run through that might old Dayton High School Beyond plan and then scheduling when we schedule here had Jenkins students pick their classes based on their high school and Beyond plan and what they think their classes are that they need plus I always a form that is if I'm worried about him I like highlight the spots where they need to fill in some things you know so every effort is made to make sure they're in the classes not only that but the classes that they need to graduate so when we work that way so that way there's Limited schedule changing when school starts so they have a week so that's that's all done and then I have another week at second semester make sure if there's any little changes that we get it all fixed up for them so so that's how scheduling works best place to check grades is canvas that's the one you always used to rely on Skyward I don't do that cuz the teachers they'll sink their grades weekly as mistaking to make something for her but on a day-to-day basis canvases the one the canvas is also where to go if perchance you're headed his absence the work is there everybody is on canvas still just a long list of like a to-do list of stuff so go to canvas for high school and Beyond plan I want to show you I don't have permission this is a senior's house on be on time for graduation what can I become and how will I become a question becomes a basis or Calvary Fellowship application every college essay rewriter with that in mind like that and then we'll do is we'll ask him it'll be a half because I want changes and no I don't they also will have some ideas for a cruise and we will have taken some kind of Interest inventory and the address I think it's probably the best career interest inventory there is out there okay. they should have some gold it will need to have some whiskey drinks Google say something Philadelphia the place to go areas of study bike store a way to look at that thing going to come in and change you know what are you going to do where do you want to go as soon as they want to go to the university well okay but you have to have to get in a gallon are and then funnel cake all of these things is not Facebook. asset so you're a junior they'll end up having to take that on this fall. English grammar and then they're going to take that you haven't heard also here is why I don't like what happened call The Country Club phone number 24 David Busters SAT exam English language then to credit I feel bad we worry about really checking them off Ohio I gave you. so those are kind of big huge deal. the other things so if those inside the other hand out that were out there was the college now it kind of gives you a kind of a timeframe for when things need to be done this for handout like this since chose those dual credit courses on the first two that are missing one math class at the math 101 that we offer now and art class art appreciation class and on this this hand out we used to offer a lot of AP courses to go with those College in the classroom one kind of pick and choose but now we just go straight College in the classroom because then they're guaranteed college credit rather than just taken has a crap shoot with the AP test I'm so totally College in the classroom not a p so there anything else you can think of that I missed or questions Spencer take me to call in a classroom NBA that would allow them State Farm in Puerto Rico well covered the AP material that can be the weekend they can test AP wise but even the cut the AP score whether it's for 5 or 3 for 5 or whatever some colleges will take the three other colleges will take the 4 so it's kind of oh my gosh what a bunch of stress and work for something that could be there or may not be there I was in the classroom classes will be there Craigslist and and from Eastern and from Central we haven't yet to have a kid not have that college accept their transfer credits do you like our classes are offered from Eastern and from Central do like we've had kids in Montana in Oregon been able to transfer credits to to their college out of state I'll transfer all in state for sure positive not for a peacock sound like get ready. yeah your kids took practice PSAT score they took practice lines as truly as a sophomore guys honestly I practice it didn't count easy. as a junior it qualifies you for scholarships at a national level and is it still practice can and you take the SAT Junior's like the pathway is the SAT again then you had two shots practice then you take sat in the springtime and then right now I couldn't even begin to stay if colleges are going to wish for those again right now they don't want your SAT scores necessarily but I can't say your kids will need them you know I don't know I just don't know so bad because it's a pathway to graduation just doesn't hurt Scholarships in right now is June 2nd. National scholarship pool yeah. I just don't want to buy them for that and kept the letters is the one Shirley Baker athletic director so yeah I know I'm here to talk a little bit about FedEx and also to give some information about winter sports so I know that some of you already have athletes through family ID which is our online registration process for athletics so in family ID can you set up your athlete's profile you sign all the required paperwork it's go for sports Billy ID is a little painful at first I'm not going to lie by veteran parents but things going up date things don't really is pretty slick time spent so if you have a question that I can help you with them sometimes I can't text what's ailing and there's a contact number that you can call talk about is Knox requirements for athletic so if you've been attending any outdoor contest so far this year like maybe we're pretty much back to normal outside Master not required are recommended for people who are unvaccinated but they're not required and if you want to I don't want to I mean we're not enforcing anything. okay I was at the Gateway volleyball it's considered a moderate contact four athletes were actively participated in the game or actually on the court do not have to wear a mask but everyone else in the facility so all of our Spectators the game management are awfully turn on the sidelines the required for a mask a hundred percent of the time contact indoor activities or basketball all wrestling and cheer for those sports are athletes who are vaccinated do not have to wear a mask. 100% of the time they have to wear the other option is to sign up for twice Wheatley covid testing rapid covid testing testing and they all super pleasant but it's the worst thing either so that's the second way and then that unvaccinated student can go without a mask during our try contact with a sport I want to make sure people know well ahead of time so that there's no staff I just want to start the sports we have about a hundred high school students doing fall Sports which is grave got 50 junior high students so we have a large number of our student population participating Athletics it's been great to watch them play and my schedule is definitely showing up in the evening I think I'm doing okay we're going to go through the different academic areas I'm sorry we don't have anyone from science okay I need the other part of my job is actually the three dual enrollment English classes that we offer here we offer English 101 201 + 173 Eastern on the 101 courses like introduction to composition class my first. Juniors are enrolled in that class English 201 will be taught in the second semester and that's a graduation requirement at Eastern Eastern Washington University and they took 201 in high school that were saved to have taken care of one of their graduation requirement English 170 is actually offered as an elected discredited still five credits if they're getting towards undergraduate degree if your student and English 101 or 201 10117 Bisbee also I teach algebra and a little bit of geometry probably be on that so this is Boswell teaches Algebra 2 and now this year she's offering that for college credit through Central so that's kind of that's a change for most people offers free calculus and calculus so get leaving here if there was going to be a elementary teacher pay teacher she's done with her, she was done in Spanish and that worked out great for her for my nephew went on to be an engineer is kind of a good jump start so definitely positive opportunity for the kids and it's nice to see book is something I do sometimes giving head to website and the code for super long it's cheaper if you buy into the office so we just went out and they're there for sale right now on through how much are they so any time something there we can order it after we can order later but we've already ordered okay history I consider myself for history I have time care but I try to avoid mr. Anderson doing scheduling cuz I know how much I love history don't get me wrong but we have a great history teacher appointment to the Middle East so he's teaching teaching his on College in the high school classes so in terms of going back to college in the high school if your student started as a sophomore they could end up with 30 credits and social studies through East I'm by the time I graduate so that's something that's I think a pop can be considered a positive and then in terms of elective classes this is Lily has huge rest of our classes are vocational Department your shop classes computer oriented and Robotics are agriculture program with mrs. Marcos very strong of course you have PE as an elective lots of things as electives here that I think that you know we have a really strong so I spoke with his yearbook lots of things that kids can offer or that they can sign up for Uber basseterre shoes pieces in department of safety of questions feel free to ask her this question and if you have any other questions from us about programs either this year for your Juniors or anticipating maybe senior year or maybe if your Xperia she had some students graduate already and you kind of know what to expect this might be a good time to ask a question I'm jealous activities and things being involved this huge Club social group Barbie Bob and Jesse is all like super part or scholarships and just for those are all things that we offer here would love to have that's kind of like them that's everything you got questions thanks for coming appreciated
