Parent Night 9th grade from 6-7 pm and 12th grade from 7-8 pm

Zoom so we'll see what kind of participation we get and so I want to think the teachers for coming tonight as well as most of you know Sue counselor Vanessa Bigler who is also a counselor couldn't make it because she cooling to finish up this year so she's finishing up a few classes and they happen to be on the days that we scheduled it some and then some of you may or may not know but mrs. Baker is also doing an internship this year and with her Administration and so she has the administrative duties as as well thank you for coming one of the things that I've been thinking about is this unofficial I know that some people in our district don't like it but it's a slogan on where dreams begin at Jenkins Junior Senior High School on that they just noticed if it might have happened with the superintendent that was a real popular in our district at one time but we haven't a different literature and I've got had any officer thought a lot about it if I could really summarize you know when I think about freshman and I think about freshman parent comes in what we want one of those themes as a staff it's we want students to begin to think about their goals and their dreams their vision for the stumps enough not super easy to do as a freshman we hopefully it gets easier as time goes on but you know in order to in order to understand what you want you have to start dreaming so that's really what we're kind of doing tonight us is giving me a little bit of a presentation and a start to who we are philosophically a little bit as a counseling department in some of the things that we have to offer and then open it up to you no questions and any answers so thank you for coming you don't have to ask all your questions tonight if you think of a question later on that's appropriate for myself give me a call. And next time you're in ask a question if it's for a teacher email could be happy to answer your questions if it's for an athletic director or it doesn't matter who just give us a call email in a few don't know who to talk to you call me and I'll call help you get it figured out so anyways so our next one is a covid protocols am I doing okay that's really simple just simply keep them home it's what's best for everybody cuz because of that unknown if they've got a stuffy nose scratchy other other things if you know that the student it is has a chronic problem and they have a chronic problem yes that's different call us up and let us know but right now are on the side of keeping your your child home until you know for sure I can verify that it's not cold like symptoms but especially if they have a temperature because they are they do let's say they have contact somebody who who you know the school knows had covid or was a family member did or something there's that there's you can test now five days and you can come back as early 7 days but if it's 10 days that they're out and they wait that's 10 days is fine what we're asking students to to do and I believe that message uniformly went out this morning first. Is to what get back to school after you've been isolated is to bring either the test if you had to go in and test or just come back to school to check in at the office I just makes it easy for us so that we can communicate with the teacher Clear Lake and most of you already know that but if it's an excused absence your son or daughter wants to go visit one of the colleges and your prearranged in it or maybe they're going to Oregon so it's an overnight trip just let us know get a pre-arranged we can work that out communicate with the teachers with with a canvas what you know we're able to commune pretty effectively with your son or daughter and an invite so versus so I'm it opens up you know a lot of a lot of doors or improve communication philantha free and reduced lunch form please because it lunches are free this year but the free and reduced lunch forms help us actually verify a lot of things and I actually prefer sign in to the school so if you happen to think that you might be closer your circumstances have changed and you might qualify for free and reduced lunches but yet we're you're getting free beaches and breakfast already it really helps the district if you fill that paperwork out so we are highly encouraging anybody that thinks that they might be right there on that on that the threshold to please do so I guess it really helps with with some funding so updates will be different message for the end and so it's just a few things that housing department is good for all kinds of things not just scheduling and all of that the work brought about the whole child and and helping all kinds of all kinds of ways so just put that out there but then are scheduling freshmen have a lot of have to send you guys picked up maybe pick up this I hear of everything they paint and also shows what they have to have to meet High School graduation requirements so in the accounting office we keep track by hand but we also keep track in the high school and Beyond plan and I'll show you that in a second so professional it's all about the half days so it's English if it's science it's their civics class gets their health class and it's picking up some vocational with some art elected so that's a lot in the six. Day so there's a lot of tattoos as freshmen and so we make sure that our freshmen get in get that start in high school is it like mr. Anderson was Saint beginning and so you can close any doors earlier so it's about being a successful freshman and getting through high school so we worked really hard to make sure that everybody what they have to be in and at the right love do that again that they're successful do scheduling kids were scheduled until the proper math class based on their eighth grade teachers condition same for English from there they got to choose and so you might have a freshman up in biology they might be in earth science or is FaceTime is so there's some Choice there they had to choose Health they had to choose a Civics and then they got some free range prices after that but otherwise they had their choice every effort was made to put them into the class that they wanted but are the bottom of the barrel Skyward maybe once a week I really truly look at their Camp that's going to be today for real break know that so you see this bright like that then the kids Ambiance lamp mission to show you I want Jana was nice enough to let me Joker so how do you start off an hour late. Been asked to look at this is for the kids come out and still have to pay for interest inventory requirement whatever one you want to do but the apartment the ticket in the class today Ribs & Soul work on bees this year and last year we going to get in our homeroom teacher from so if you are interested in and what do you plan to do Everything is Awesome change continually and the kids if I lose them forever almost every school in the state of Washington uses this program remove all of that so here is the resumes building right so it's basically like a rough draft of a resume. play the listing of everything that they've ever done so again it is the plan and translate High School you have a password I write for high school graduation don't do that. you got a local level two or three or four those oh so that's a little bit different you can have a password with the location I could have would have a dance floor call mechanic and I get out and do two years or classes in the same group animals and people Diane and I could have floral design for classes the same group and so those are I could pass the help out the military military career and so I can I could take the SAT or the act and ask them what's 30 + 4 10 for the Ninja Turtle masks those are, and I have to be able to communicate. Epic class alarm in front of you every class that a student population into this area right here it is right now if he's going to be in classes that are populating right there and they have a party milestone trailer for the state championship that again the 9th graders will be tested like this fall in October and then they'll be tested again with spray as 9th grader Saint Louis Park is watching tapes history are student requirements for high school graduation over here Albany Park is there because it's recorded on a high school transcript recorded transfer requirements in terms of a freshman kirghiz photos at Toys R Us stop. another pathway taking out of college in the classroom I'm sure. Ozarks the transmission parts the bridges classes for English I get to approve and then you buy it as well and it's all about cyber login to get into this and then without a website wherever they make sense I'm not that kind of a lot of stuff so we are always tracking our freshman we drop off kids make sure that everybody has the right stuff other hand has a transcript transfer all the countries in the state of Washington but then it's all about and that's what makes it feel like how long until you get to high school and then don't have the credit the traffic is making sure that they'll and the biggest thing about freshman just making sure you're off to a good start of the best thing that anybody can do is and if you have any questions contact I'm someone I will track it down Webster's on transcripts number play Let It Go. we don't look at anything being like the spinal I mean honestly we have we have high school signing Celebration Day and we sign and yeah I'm going to Central and then change my mind I'm going to know I'm going to ask you if you know whatever I think it's really more about having that idea in your head are you going to do something I don't care what it is as long as you just something I just try and communicate it to us and we're going to help you get to whatever it is that you want to get there until about swai honestly we start in junior high just starting to guess just get that idea cuz then I said I wanted to be an engineer and that's where Tom Thumb next semester when they're in their classes then they're going to come in and want to schedule change and I'll go if you don't have your iPhone oh you said you want to go you know well then you better continue down this just helps everybody for the perfect but at least it gives us an ID and it gets done idea what's out there I think one other thing she's just add there was thinking about it and she used to be before we went to the court 24 requirement that students can choose to take certain levels of math better that would eliminate themselves from actually being eligible to go to a 4-year College states that a pretty good job of staying our goal is to help to get through high school and we're shooting for if you want to go on to a four-year college or university we're going to help you try to get there just by the very nature of that's almost what you have to do to graduate from high school so instead of instead of making you totally choose it it almost as stated choosing for you but as you get closer post your senior year you can choose some other Pathways but that's a you know a personal choice or you start painting classes then it becomes a personal choice as well but thank you sis nice job very comprehensive we're going to talk a little bit more Summit athletic opportunities I just want to say that there's a couple things that that clubs at work talking about starting up and when I just got an advisor for yesterday and today is for a chess club and so if you have a son or a daughter or a family friend or whatever the sensor didn't doing that we do have two advisors now on staff and one local gentleman that is looking at supporting that a little bit financially but also with some interested and sharing his knowledge and then another Community member came out of the woodwork that said hey I used to be a champion I'm a champ chesebro actually and I'm and I helped a lot of Deer Park I'd love to come and help out here I asked you some questions we've opened up a door pretty excited about because our goal is to meet the needs of a variety of students whether they like the game whether they like to play chess whether they like the bowl or maybe they're in special education and they like to do some activities that are more inclusive or like mrs. Baker's going to talk about a lot of Athletics Adventures that we you know that our more traditional that we've supported for many many years so that what that's it maker of the athletic director this is my third year as a d if you familiar faces from the other night so I'll try not to belabor some of the point there's really the two things on the agenda specific chocolate eggs or family ID and Sport Seasons I'm happy to answer other if you have them so in order to participate in athletics at our school as a family you register and family ID which allows you to upload all of your family information your insurance information you and your students I'm the alpha decoders bility forms all of this in one place and so from there we determine if your child is or when your child is eligible for sports and other things that are required are they have to have a sports physical and then that's pay for the SD card so it actually works pretty well at the first I'm not going to lie the first time you do it's a little bit painful but we try to make it as easy as possible and so that's how you get I'm set up and family idea if you have questions you can always email me or call the office and I'm happy to help with you to help you with that the second one is Just Sports season so we're right in the middle of fall Sports football at the high school level football volleyball cross-country on moving into winter which is something I really want to talk about in winter is girls and boys basketball and wrestling so right now the state of Washington we have outdoor sports are able to participants Spectators officials coaches are not required to wear masks but when we moved in move into winter sport wrestling and basketball are considered Phi contact Indoor Sport Sulphur students the students vaccinated and they're playing either basketball or wrestling they do not have to wear a mouse but if they are unvaccinated there's two options either they were masked a hundred percent of the time requirement or twice weekly testing and to maintain the fact that they're covid negative so that is something moving forward the other thing is to as at all of our end or Sports everyone except the athletes were on the court actively participating or required to wear masks so I got rid of Mauston sports but the kids are on the court and the kids then they're out there playing or not having to wear them which is I think a benefit to the students so if anybody else has any questions than happy to answer them what is special program highlights of special programs and canvas it looks like we're going to the different department Death Punch the first group is science what's going on with science so I mentioned how there's like biology and then there's Earth and space science for freshman but then there is  a healthy to have to graduate high school but we offer to different kinds of this year because we're hooked into the wwsu & health careers and so there is a health careers that is again hooked with a shoe and specialized tell class that get the kids experience with all those health careers and meet the helps requirement so it's a year-long class I'm so makes it a little bit different than just the regular health class but you end up with Dentures from w on our campus and and it goes past from when we were there a Traders last year and the year before 7 so we're really lucky to have here and give those kids that one more shot it at looking at a different career something that they might not have already so that and then this stuff is English Oaks we are reading some our way up to Friday yes everything your child misses class I personally open a zoom link for kids if they're at home so they can join in class to be part of the bus whether there are sick or not and then I have videos on there that says order of operations as well as the classroom that we did regardless of whether they're at home or at school and if you have any plans with my friends on Happy Days geometry 7 mm I'll just add that I watched a couple of the videos that Jennifer put on mine so your kids are gone go to work at 4:19 Friday and you would be just fine as long as you're willing for some time and online some kind of learning the canvas in a little bit this year it is much easier to use than I thought it would be closer to Blaster help a little bit but now that you're really getting into it I was sitting there homework the kids are always welcome to watch my videos on the way so if your if your child is struggling with what we're doing Civic Center not in it now they will be next I go down to drawing I have art appreciation for a job well done and then I have to deal with all of the litter send to pottery classes and they're still at Studio play music to hang out messages are available for 10 through 12th graders that are his kids here Jenkins can earn 60 credits of college work beginning when they're sophomores which is an amazing amount of college credit from Eastern and Central so so it is like an amazing opportunity is something that kids don't get anywhere so this is pretty close to Accurate on all of that except what we've done is gone away from the AP World straight to college and don't get me wrong but it's a crapshoot got to go to the whole entire class and the end up not getting a three or four or five whatever they started until college credits are for credit depending on the from from Central or Eastern it's a for sure thing no I don't think so just really like listen to said obviously right now if you're listening so there's not an option for us we don't want to see any students fail especially freshener because it sets the tone for the next four years you're you're playing in catch up game that's never fun so stay on top of your students communicate with you but if you have any concerns or questions don't hesitate to call. so we can get your son or daughter and others also on video on how to download and be able to look at that we had a balanced graduation requirements credits and whether or not we stayed at 6. 7 cancel that's what it decision was made at that time 60 more students at this time that's
